Job Position Overview
The Civil Engineer/EIT is responsible for engineering and design of all site/civil and stormwater management for building and site/civil construction projects. Prepares plans; secures and tracks permits, reviews documents, etc.
Essential Job Skills/Qualifications
- 4-year Civil Engineering degree or equivalent technical training. Professional Engineering license or the ability to secure a P.E. license a must. 
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in site design and development including storm water management, SWPPP, grading, utility layout and design/site planning. 
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D (and/or Carlson) a must. Knowledge of AutoDesk Hydrographs preferred. 
- Ability to read, interpret and generate construction plans and scopes of work. 
- Ability to read and interpret various maps (topographical, aerial, geographical, etc.) and geotechnical reports. 
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work effectively with a complete design/build project team including construction personnel or when working independently. 
- Knowledge of BMP’s as they relate to erosion control and storm water management 
- Strong analytical, math and problem-solving skills. 
Job Responsibilities
- Engineer all aspects of site/civil design and storm water management for site/civil and building construction projects. Prepare construction documents for all engineered items. Digitize plan sets, as required. 
- Prepare, submit and track all permits as required for local, state and federal agencies. 
- Assists with pre-construction activities as needed: reviewing surveys and soil reports; develop conceptual construction site plans; work to develop mass earthwork and storm water management bid packages. 
- Must be able to design to a construction budget and work with the design/build team on all aspects of a construction project. Must have time management skills necessary to adhere to design budgets. 
- Review site/civil documents as prepared by others. Assist with quantity take-offs as requested. 
- Create site survey requirements and assist in soliciting surveying proposals. Prepare reports and/or consult with environmental associations, government agencies, consulting firms, etc., as required. 
- Work with Project Manager, Jobsite Superintendent and General Superintendent to address construction issues and revise construction documents as required. Review construction submittals as required. 
- Strong understanding of environmental and building codes and local ordinances. Perform construction inspections as requested to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, codes and ordinances. 
- Participate in meetings with current or potential customers to discuss site development issues, schedules, costs, solutions, etc. 
Working Conditions
Physical demands: Some lifting may be required (up to 50 lbs), walking, standing, sitting, talking/hearing, keyboarding, writing and reading.
Environmental conditions: Work primarily performed in a controlled indoor environment. Some travel/work to construction jobsites.
